Do I Have to Wear Golf Shoes?

1/28/2012

Most golf courses require you to wear golf shoes while playing. Athletic shoes are fine on some golf courses, you can still produce a reasonable golf score, but it is highly recommended that you purchase a pair of golf shoes if you are a serious golfer.
The main reason you will want to invest in a pair is in the performance. In order for you to take a good shot you will need good footing. There are several cleats at the bottom of the shoe, these cleats keep the golfer firmly to the ground and provide balance so you can take an accurate swing.
Back in the 20th century they used metal spikes. They would nail a golfer to the ground, but they would damage the greens and make them unplayable for other golfers. Fortunately they don't use metal spikes anymore and it is rare you will find a club that will allow them. They have now been replaced by plastic cleats and although these are softer, they provide excellent traction without causing damage to the greens.
A comfortable fit is important especially if you are walking the course and who wants a nasty blister. Athletic shoes are generally very comfortable to walk in and the golf shoes of yesteryear were heavy and very uncomfortable for your feet. Well the good news is these days they are just as comfortable as athletic shoes. They have advanced to lightweight, flexible materials such as memory foam and EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate).
Golf shoes are very valuable in wet conditions. Even in the summer you will find the fairways are wet and throughout the year you are going to come across a lot of wet turf. This could be caused by sprinkled fairways, heavy rain and if you like to play early you will come across the morning dew. The good news is most are waterproof and at the very least water-resistant. Most will come with a one or two years waterproof warranty. Make sure you settle for no less than a one year waterproof warranty.
If you are into fashion it is good to know that you can buy a pair that will rival your favourite pair of sneakers. It used to be unthinkable parading around in a pair of heavy, ugly tasseled shoes, but now they look like any other sneaker with the added bonus or cleats and waterproof features.
We have proved that we really do need a pair of golf shoes, not just because many clubs only allow them, but because they will help you improve your game dramatically. Now are they worth the price that would have you buy them? That all depends on your budget, but the good news is there is a huge price range to choose from. You can buy a pair online or at your local golf store. Online you have a wider range and you can get a better deal. At your store you have the advantage of trying on your shoes before you buy.

How to Choose the Right Golf Shoes

1/24/2012

Choosing the right golf shoes all comes down to personal choice in what you are wanting. Are you going to be playing in dry or wet weather conditions? Are you wanting fashionable shoes? Are you wanting more comfort for you feet? Or maybe you are wanting a pair that has everything you want.
Your golf shoes should match your personality with what ever that means to you. Lets take a look at what to look out for and what you might not have considered.
You need good traction
At the bottom of your shoes you have several cleats. They are designed to grip a golfer to the ground and stabilize the body when taking a swing. They help you take a powerful, accurate shot and are great on damp surfaces. This will dramatically improve your score card.
Another important place good traction comes into play is in the bunkers. Golfers are not allowed to ground their club in to the sand or take a practice shot and it can be difficult to keep your balance on the sand. You can keep your balance by digging your shoes into the sand in a side to side motion. With this added stability, you should now be ready to take your shot.
Waterproof or water-resistant
It is recommended that golfers own a pair of waterproof golf shoes or at the very least water-resistant. Even in the summer there are days you will be playing on wet turf even if it hasn't rained. You can come across sprinkled fairways and if you like to play an early round of golf you might be playing in the morning dew. Of course if you are playing in wet conditions then it is a no brainer to have waterproof shoes.
Moisture wicking
Waterproof shoes only prevent water getting in your golf shoes, but what about the moisture inside?
Sweat makes moisture wicking shoes a necessity. There is a special lining material that draws the moisture away from the feet. We are not sure where it sends the moisture, but trust us, this concept works very well.
Comfort for your feet
Comfort is probably top of the list. Every golfer wants comfortable feet, especially the walking golfers. If you are a walking golfer you are going to want shoes that are lightweight and flexible. These shoes have lightweight materials that are designed to stop blisters by reducing the friction on your feet.
Look out for EVA (ethyl vinyl acetate) and TPU (thermoplastic urethane). EVA is soft, flexible and shock absorbent, this makes it perfect for shoes. TPU is durable, flexible and makes for a very comfortable experience.
Another comfortable feature is memory foam. This is more luxury than necessity but your feet will thank you. Memory foam conforms to the shape of your feet giving you a very comfortable experience.
Styles and designs
This all comes down to your personal taste. There are plenty of styles and designs to choose from and you can get designs that look very similar to athletic shoes.
Go down to your local golf store or look online for the golf shoes you want and need.

Most people have seen shuffleboard tables in restaurants and bars. It is one of the oldest table games which are still in existence but that definitely does not mean that it is old and boring. In fact, in the last few years, the game has been getting quite popular once again. That is because more and more establishments have been using game tables such as the shuffleboard to keep their customers busy while waiting for their orders to be served. Customers are kept happy and entertained in order to take their mind off food for a while. Playing shuffleboard definitely beats counting the minutes until your food arrives at the dining table. Due to its newly rekindled popularity, the game is making a comeback not only in business establishments but also in private homes. There are a lot of companies which manufacture and sell game tables so finding one shouldn't be too hard. But before you actually buy one, find out first how much you are willing to shell out. Depending on your preference and budget, you can buy a brand new table or a used one.
Buying a Brand New Table
If budget is not an issue and if you are in a hurry to buy one, you can check out the internet for the best deals. Buying a brand new table is the fastest way to have one in your home. The most important thing to consider is the wood that was used to make the table. The best tables are those which are made of kiln dried maple. These tables will not warp and will probably last a lifetime. Make sure also that the wood is protected or covered by a polymer finish. This will make the table resistant to stains, scratches and other minor damage due to ordinary wear and tear.
Buying a Used or a Second-Hand Table
If you would like to have a shuffleboard table for a fraction of the price of a brand new one, then buying a used one is a good option. Again, you should first determine the kind of wood that was used to make the table. If it's kiln dried maple, then you're in luck. Since there might be some difficulty in finding kiln dried maple tables, those made of Canadian maple are also good alternatives. Also check the level of the surface and make sure it has not warped or uneven.
Making Your Own Table
If you are highly adept in and has passion for carpentry, then making one yourself is a fantastic way to have your very own shuffleboard table at very little cost. You can find comprehensive instructions in the internet on how to make one. Not only will you be able to save a lot of money but you will also able to add personal touches. You can likewise purchase online accessories like table lights which will surely make your game table even fancier. Keep in mind that it does not matter if your table is store-bought or not. What matters most is its quality and workmanship. The game has survived for generations. With proper care and maintenance, the table should last at least a lifetime.

Tips on Buying an Air Hockey Table

1/15/2012

Getting an air hockey table for your home is perhaps one of the best decisions you will ever make as it will surely bring the biggest smiles to your kids faces and will bring a lot of laughter for your entire family for a really long time. It is one of those games that kids never outgrow as they never cease to be fun. As long as you have someone to play and share it with, every game is as enjoyable as the last and will never fail to brighten up your day.
There are several types of air hockey tables that are commercially available. The type of table that you should buy really depends on several factors such as the ages of the those who will be frequently using the table, the size of the space allotted for the table, and, of course, the budget.
Buying an Air Hockey Table for Kids
Some tables are especially made for smaller kids who can not possibly reach far enough to hit the puck when it lands on the middle parts of the standard-sized tables. If you are buying a table primarily for your smaller kids, then buying a full-sized one is out of the question. Kiddie-sized tables are lower and shorter - perfect for little children! When buying a kiddie-sized table, it is not advisable to go for the most expensive one. You should not spend so much on a kiddie variety because your kids will surely outgrow the table in a few years. If your kids are tall enough to use the full-sized table, then you should get the regular-sized one instead.
Working on a Limited Space
Air hockey tables now come in different sizes. It is important to get an accurate measurement of the space in your home where you intend to place the table. Make sure that the table you choose would fit the area perfectly. Don't forget though to allot sufficient space around the table to allow movement.
Working on a Limited Budget
Bear in mind that the most important consideration in choosing a table is its workmanship and quality. There is, however, another factor which is also crucial when deciding on which table to buy and that is the quality of the air blower. If you want to get the most out of your table, then you should go for the one which has a commercial grade or industrial rated air blower. Settling for anything less than that will only give you great disappointment especially if you're planning on using the table for a long period of time. Also keep in mind that the table shouldn't be so expensive. If you are working on a tight budget, you should forego the additional features which make some tables much more expensive such as fancy lights and exciting sounds. Be careful though that you do away only with the features that will not affect the quality of the game.

Golf Shoes For Walking 18 Holes

1/10/2012

There are plenty of golfers that enjoy walking all 18 holes of the golf course. If you are one of these golfers, you are going to need a pair of golf shoes that will make your walk more enjoyable and much more comfortable.
On average a golf course measures around 4 miles, that is from tee to green. There is much more to this march than walking from tee to green. For example, you have the walk from the clubhouse to the course, the stray shots that go into the rough and hit trees and elsewhere stray shot might go.
By the time you have made the 19 hole you would have walked at least 5 miles on possible hilly terrain with your bagful of clubs.
If you intend to walk the course then a pair of comfortable golf shoes is highly recommended.
Below we have some essential guidelines.
Light Construction
Your shoes should be light for your feet when doing a lot of walking. Major manufacturers have made huge strides when it comes to lightweight materials, making golf shoes weigh as little as 13.8 ounces a piece. Some are made of fabric or synthetic leather and they are also available in real leather.
Waterproof
They need to be waterproof or at the very least water-resistant. Waterproof means there is no way water is getting in your shoes and water-resistant shoes will turn away water for only so long until water seeps into your shoes.
This is a very important feature to have. Walking for 4 hours leaves you a long weather window for rain. Many courses sprinkle their fairways and on the early starts you have the morning dew. You should settle for no less than a one-year waterproof warranty.
Moisture wicking
Not long ago moisture wicking was considered a luxury, now it is possible to dress from head to toe in these materials. Waterproof shoes only stop water getting in from the outside, but what about the moisture your feet create?
Shoes with moisture wicking are a necessity for walking golfers. A special material lining inside draws the moisture away from the feet. It sends it somewhere, but trust us, this concept works very well.
Sock liners
Sock liners normally come with most golf shoes, but incase they do not, invest in a pair made from technical, moisture wicking fabric. Absorbent cotton socks are not recommended as they will not draw the moisture away from your feet.
Flexibility
Wearing stiff shoes on a golf course is completely unacceptable. The manufacturers have used the technology to eliminate inflexibility from golf shoes whether they are made from fabric or leather.
We suggest trying on a pair of shoes that interest you. Take a walk round the shop to get a feel for them.
Memory foam
This is more luxury than necessity, memory foam moulds to the shape of your foot and ankle and is very comfortable for your feet. As we said this is not a necessity but you wont regret it if you splash out on a pair of golf shoes lined with this stuff.

The Three Most Popular NBA Jerseys

1/08/2012

The NBA is back. This means more coast-to-coast excitement. Is this the year the East takes over? With the Lakers not being able to land Chris Paul because of a blocked deal by the NBA, with the Spurs nearly ancient and with the Mavericks missing Tyson Chandler, the door is wide open for the East. Even if you think the Clippers can make a run this year and somehow make the NBA Finals, they don’t have any playoff experience. The demise of the West is great news for the East, especially for teams like the Heat and Bulls. Regardless of what team you’re rooting for, it’s important that you support your team by looking into NBA jerseys.
What are the most popular NBA jerseys? Do you know the answer? If not, don’t worry. We have the answers. If you’re not an NBA fan and you’re thinking of buying a gift for someone who is an NBA fan, the last thing you want is to buy a jersey for the 6th man on the Wizards. That probably wouldn’t go over too well. Even if you’re an NBA fan, don’t you want to own the most popular NBA jerseys? It simply looks cooler. If you’re not into looking cool, then consider NBA jerseys for players you like or players that play the same way you do.
The most popular NBA jersey shouldn’t come as a surprise. It’s LeBron James. The interesting thing about this is that LeBron is hated by many. Therefore, when people see this jersey on your back, they’re either going to give you an accepting nod or they’re going to turn away from you. If they turn away, who cares? You’re representing.
The second most popular NBA jersey is Kobe Bryant. This is somewhat surprising. While he still might be the best player in the game, he’s on the tail end of his career, which usually leads to fewer jersey sales. Another big factor is that Kobe doesn’t attack the rim anymore. He’s more of a jump shooter, which the younger crowd doesn’t think is as cool. However, Kobe always finds a way to beat the odds, even when it comes to public perception. Just don’t expect Kobe to win anymore titles. His supporting cast is fading fast.
The two most popular NBA jerseys might have been relatively easy to predict, but there’s no way you’re going to guess #3 on the list. If you guessed Dwayne Wade, Amar’e Stoudamire, Kevin Durant or Dwight Howard, you would be wrong. Number three on the list is Rajon Rondo. Before you shake your head in disbelief, there are two major reasons for this. One is because he’s a young point guard who makes exciting plays. The other reason is because he plays in Boston. Los Angeles, Chicago and New York might all be great basketball cities, but until you live in Boston and understand the culture, you don’t understand how important basketball is here. This isn’t a city where half the population watches the Celtics game. This is a city where almost everyone lives and breathes Celtics.
Those are the three most popular NBA jerseys. Do you think the list will be the same after this season? Don’t be spineless. Make a prediction and buy the NBA jersey of the player who you think is most likely to break out this season.

What To Consider When Purchasing Pitching Machines

Are you puzzled with the variety of baseball softball pitching machines that are available on the market? Do you need help in choosing the right batting cage or batting cages for your young athlete? It is a good idea to do your homework well before you go for the kill lest you will find after you have bought your machinery that you have missed a good deal somewhere. Before you decide, take a look at the six major types of pitching machines available to you:
1. Real Ball Machine – as you would have guessed from the name, this type of equipment these are those machines you see on the commercials which pitch “real” balls. The balls used by these machines are dimpled and weigh about five ounces. These machines come in two categories – (1) arm styled wheel machines and (2) compressed air machines. All these models come with their own batting cages. Ensure that your machines have an auto feeder and remote control so you could play solo when you want to train or play on your own.
2. Wheel Style Machine – these machines are more versatile than the real ball equipment, which makes this type of machine a hot favorite all over the country. This machine can be used as comfortably for baseball as it can be used for softball or a combination of both. These machines have a drawback, they need power supply so, if you are planning to use it on any field, you will need to arrange for a generator as well.
3. Single Wheel Machine- these machines are best for beginner as they are used for throwing balls in straight pitch. There are usually priced in the range of $900 and up- this type of machines are a little cheaper than the two-wheel model and therefore best for the warming up players. The speed of the throw here ranges between 25-70 mph.
4. Two Wheel Machine – this type of machine is more versatile and hence preferred by coaches all over. You can use this machine to simulate any type of throw, which is why this is the best for professional training purposes. You can use them for fly balls, ground balls and even catch pop-ups. They are portable and look very smart. The downside of this machine is that you cannot see the movement of the arm, which somehow interferes negatively with the thrill of the practice game and/ or training session. However, with a little practice, this drawback can fade into background.
5. Arm Style Machines – for those who love to see the arm throwing the ball, this machine completely fits the bill. These machines have been around for more than 5 decades, which makes them a great choice for buying. They are bulky and not easily movable, which is a downside.
6. Hopper Fed and Rack Fed Machines – these machines are pre-fed and comes in two types, for example, (1) containing 38 balls and (2) containing 28 balls. These machines are highly durable, versatile and require least maintenance. This type is mostly used for professional training sessions.

Baseball Cards Are Making A Comeback

1/05/2012

Any older people will certainly remember the fad for collecting baseball cards and the importance it seemed to hold in a young life. These days, although it is not quite as popular as the good old days, there are still some die hard collectors who will go to untold lengths to get their favorite player. Indeed, perhaps the most famous, because they were the originals, are the Topps baseball cards which still are bought and sold even up to today.
Although most of us would wonder what anyone sees in collecting something like this, those who are avid collectors are really serious about the hobby? Some of the rarer varieties can change hands at some phenomenal amounts of cash. It is not unusual for some of them to go for several thousand dollars apiece so this should show how important some of them are.
The more common specimens though are usually swapped or bartered at specific meets where all the enthusiasts get together. As with anything where an intrinsic value is worked out, one can be swapped for several lesser pieces whereas the more valuable pieces will attract cash on top of the deal too.
Indeed, these meets and seminars is where the avid collector will always look for that perfect specimen to add to his collection. This is big business for the suppliers too but who would have thought that so much money would pass from hand to hand for some small item like this?
In fact, this hobby is gaining in popularity to the point where trade shows and fairs are now traveling around the states selling these items exclusively. They are usually attended by thousands of people all looking for the elusive player and families have gotten involved too. Some even make these special pieces regular birthday or holiday gifts so that someone young will have something that has gained in value when they get older.
Although these used to be given away with candy or gum, nowadays the young ones have life so much easier since they can just visit the local store and get what they want. Instead of eagerly ripping open the packet to see who was inside, they just choose what they want from a vast array that the specialist shop has on offer.
One great way to get the one that is missing from the collection is to search online for those who have that specific one on offer. Since most people who become collectors often communicate with each other through blogs and such, it is unusual to get a rogue dealer who cheats people by either sending out fake goods or by taking the money and then not supplying the goods. When a rogue dealer is spotted, his name goes around like wildfire and everyone is warned in advance. However, as with all online sales, check on the site thoroughly before parting with cash or credit card details. This could be someone looking to steal identities, with a private sale, so some careful thought must go into the sale before opting to buy.

Why A Baseball Pitching Machines Can Make A Big Difference?

The pitching machines are some of the best available baseball training aids for any young baseball player. This training in particular helps with perfecting your technique for hitting the ball by exposing you to all types of ball throwing tactics and speeds. Before you go and buy such a tool, you need to know what you should look for to get the best possible deal. You need to check for the following:
1. Pitch speed - Check whether the machine has the right pitching speed you need. Many machines today come with adjustable (manual or automatic) speed. Ensure you buy the one that suits you best or it would money lost.
2. Number of wheels - Check that your favorite machine has the right number of wheels. Once again, if these are less or more, it would be counterproductive for you.
3. Mobility -The machines you choose should be easily movable from one place to another. This is normally a large and bulky machine and you would definitely need it on the pitch ground to practice. So, to avoid too much inconvenience, you need to choose a machine that is highly mobile.
4. Accessories - As any other machine, it is important that you know and have available all the required accessories to optimize its use. Some of the must-have accessories are (1) auto ball feeder, (2) generators, (3) covers and (4) dimpled balls. Each one of these accessories would be a positive factor that contributes to your training.
5. Warranty - Whatever you buy. Ensure that there is appropriate warranty available. You never know what would go wrong and unless you have proper warranty coverage, your investment would be a complete waste.
Why are these machines so much in demand?
Not all batters have the privilege to train with a coach. This means they have to depend upon the availability of their friends to be able to practice and perfect their batting. The pitching machine does away with the need of a coach or even a friend. You could make the necessary programming and practice all day long or as much as would give you satisfaction.
This machine is designed to do everything a regular pitcher does. It can spin the ball, increase or decrease the speed of the ball, it can start with simple throws and work towards complex and complicated pitching so you can master each one aspect of batting.
What accessories you would need most?
The best machine would have auto ball feeder so you do not need someone just to man the machine. Here you can adjust the speed and type of throw so you could keep on practicing until you would be dreaming about it. Choose dimpled balls over any other type available. These balls would ensure that your machine lasts as long as it was designed for.
Automatic pitch selector is also a very good feature on the machine as this would ensure that there is just enough variety in the pitching so the batter would have the best ever practice.

Keeping Fit Has Never Been So Much Fun

These days, when most of us are bent on holding down jobs to help the family to survive, we often forget that the kids want some quality time with us too. We do tend to let the TV or computer assist in the baby sitting for us and then we worry when we see the kids becoming unfit or overweight. There is a solution though with equipment that will get everyone up and out of the chair whenever there is an odd hour to spare. Try looking for 'baseball softball pitching machines' or 'batting cages' on the internet to see what is available. A batting cage is great for those players who want to try this sport out on their own.
Of course, we are all aware of this style of game and many will certainly watch the sport every week on the TV. But trying to involve ourselves in the game too is a great way to bond with our kids again. Indeed, many families have a set of equipment set up in the backyard for just such an occasion. Not only is this a fun aspect for all the family to enjoy, it also ensures that the family does something good together which will aid in their fitness levels as well.
Since the world is seeing an increase in child obesity, this game is a great way to tear them away from their computer games. Of course, it is with the advent of so much in home entertainment that obesity has become a problem. In years gone by, kids would maybe watch an hour of TV before running off to play with friends. These days though, with twenty-four hour entertainment plus the internet, it would seem that a person could stay in a chair most of the day.
Anything then that will get them interested must be a good idea for sure. Even parents do not take enough time to play with the kids anymore so this way of setting up competitions, and league tables if necessary, gets them excited about doing something which they do not realize will keep them fit at the same time.
But these are not toys for sure. This same equipment is used by the professionals when they want their players to get extra practice. Indeed, those out with injuries often use this same equipment to keep their hand in while they are waiting for an injury to heal.
The great thing about having this equipment too is that there are many books and DVDs on the market which will have star players, past and present, giving hints and tips on how to play the game. This is a great way to get people motivated and will surely make them love the sport even more.
Although this equipment used to be rather expensive, these days it is down in price and will surely be within easy reach to most families. Those who have invested in this equipment have a happier and healthier lifestyle to show for it so it must be worth the expense.
